Chapter TwoA Chapter by SamanthaOh jeez. i hate him. Chapter Two Lilly sighed as Jaybird walked ahead of her gleefully. The moon now sat high in the sky. Lilly looked around. “Do you even know where we are?” “Of course I do” “Where might that be?” “Five miles north of camp” “Where’s the pack?” “A mile west of here” “Aren't we traveling east?” “Yes” “Why?” “Because we can” Lilly sighed again. “What are we doing, exactly?” “Hunting” “There’s no food here. We hunted here last moon. Everything will have moved on” “We might as well check” Lilly glared at him. She looked back down to her paws and watched as the grass passed beneath them. She began counting her pawsteps out of boredom. After forty three, she suddenly bumped into Jaybird. “Ouch! Why did you stop like that?” Jaybird shrugged. He sat down and looked up at the sky. Though the night air was warm, Lilly felt a shiver go up her spine. She sat down a few tail-lengths away from him and began sniffing the air, trying to determine where she was. Half a mile away from the pack. Did we back track or did they come back for us? No, that doesn’t sound right. Lilly sniffed the air again. He lied. We’re only a half a mile away from camp, and the pack is a mile away... Another shiver went up Lilly’s spine. Why did he lie? Suddenly Lilly was on her back, the wind knocked out of her. She gasped for air and looked up to see Jaybird pinning her to the ground. He smiled triumphantly and leaned down so his mouth was just barely touching her ear. “Got you” Lilly gasped painfully, trying to get her lungs to cooperate. “See, Lilly. This is one of those things I’ve been trying to explain to you. Males are special. Especially me. Dusty trusts and likes me. I can get away with anything. Thunderpaw could somehow mysteriously disappear, and you could just mysteriously be carrying my pups, and Dusty wouldn’t even question it. See, I dont understand you, Lilly. You don’t want to be set with anyone, you don’t want pups, yet you still seem to love Thunderpaw so much. Why is that?” Lilly finally was able to get air into her lungs. She breathed in deeply. “I don’t love him like that. He’s like a brother” “It doesn’t look that way. Isn’t that a little bit mean to him, leading him on like that? I don’t understand you Lilly. You love me, yet you play hard to get. Why is that?” Jaybird brought his jaws closer to Lilly’s, smiling. “You think you’re free, Lilly. But you’re already mine” “Your evil” Jaybird laughed and pressed his jaws to hers. She quickly turned her head only to get bitten on the ear. “Behave yourself Lilly; you wouldn’t want Dusty mad for disobeying, would you?” “You wouldn’t” “Ah, but I would” Jaybird licked Lilly’s cheek and Lilly screamed. “Don’t touch me!” She began to struggle fiercely, praying the pack was close enough to hear her howls. Jaybird bit down hard on her shoulder, letting drops of blood fall onto the ground. Lilly yelped in pain. “You’re crazy!” She gasped again and struggled to get free. “Let me GO!” “You’re hurt!” “STOP!!!” Thunderpaw froze and quickly got off of Jaybird. The gray wolf quickly scurried to Dusty. “Thank the great moon! You’re here!” “What happened?” “Sir, I don’t think it’s fit for the pack’s ears.” Lilly looked behind him to see most of the pack gazing around curiously. Dusty nodded. “Redfur, take the pack back to camp. I’ll meet you there” Redfur nodded and took off in the other direction, the pack following behind. Dusty waited until they were out of sight before glaring around. “Continue, Jaybird” Jaybird nodded and looked down at his paws, pretending to be embarrassed. “Lilly asked to go off of the trails to be alone, and I said yes, which is where I admit I made my mistake” “Well, we we’re sitting down, looking at the moon and out of no where a fox attacked Lilly” Lilly’s jaw dropped farther. Only then did she realize that the smell of fox hung around the small area. She felt the hairs on the back of her pelt rising. “I quickly attacked the fox, saving Lilly. The fox ran off and I noticed Lilly was bleeding. Well, I didn’t want it to get infected and she couldn’t reach, so when she asked I agreed to lick the wounds” “Lilly yelled in pain again and Thunderpaw came out of nowhere, saw me licking Lilly, and attacked me in a jealous rage” “Lilly, I would have expected more of you. Usually you have more self control and if it weren’t for you, nothing would have happened. Thunderpaw, I understand how hard this must be for you and that is why I am not punishing you. This was all a big misunderstanding and I order that no one speaks of this to the rest of the pack. Understand?” Lilly and Thunderpaw nodded numbly. Jaybird nodded, failing at his attempt to hide the giant smirk on his face. Dusty disappeared through the bushes and Lilly stood up, only to gasp in pain. Jaybird was quickly at her side. “Here, honey, let me help you” “Go away!” “I’ll lick your wounds later tonight” Lilly snorted in disgust as he disappeared through the bushes after Dusty. Thunderpaw quickly was next to her, helping her walk. Lilly flinched at each step she took. “I’m sorry you got stuck in this” “Not your fault” Thunderpaw was quiet for a few moments and Lilly stopped. “You dont believe that chunk of fox poop Jaybird told, do you?” Thunderpaw shook his head. “No, that’s not why I’m mad” “You’re mad?” Thunderpaw nodded. It was quiet again and Lilly looked at him questionably. Thunderpaw looked at his paws. “What would he have done if I didn’t show up, and would he really have gotten away with it?” Lilly looked at him. “How much did you hear?” “Almost all of it. I had a bad feeling so I left the pack to follow you. I was just far enough away to barely hear you. That’s why it took me some time to get here” “You followed me?” Thunderpaw shook his head. “I understand if you’re mad” “No, I’m not mad. I’m grateful. Thank you” Thunderpaw nodded. Lilly gasped as her shoulder sent a spasm of pain down her leg. “Ow! Ok, can we please stop for a second?” “Yeah” Lilly quickly sat down and turned to lick her bleeding shoulder. Blood soaked her white tan fur, turning it scarlet. Lilly grunted in pain as she licked and attempted to reach all the way to her neck where the rest of the blood and teeth marks lay. Thunderpaw sighed. “I don’t know whether to laugh to stay silent” Lilly stopped and glared at him for a moment before continuing her licking. He smiled. “Would you like some help?” Lilly stopped mid lick and looked at Thunderpaw from the corner of her eyes. “Please just let me help. I know better than to think of it that way” Lilly stopped and looked the other direction, letting Thunderpaw lick her neck. She sighed. “Are you ok?” Thunderpaw grunted between licks. “Yeah… Just know that I don’t always think of this stuff like the way you think I do. I do this stuff because I care No matter what you think of me as, I’m always here. Just as long as you don’t feel about me the same way you feel about Jaybird” Lilly laughed and then flinched in pain. “That’s good to know” “It took me a while but I learned over time, and now I understand. It still bothers me every now and then. But not as bad as it used to” Lilly smiled. “That’s good, Thunderpaw… I’m happy” “There! Finished!” Lilly sighed in relief and stood up. “Thank you!” “No problem. Shall we head back to camp?” “Please!” Lilly woke to sun in her eyes. Three days had passed and she still felt exhausted, and more furious than ever at Jaybird and her father. She got up and stretched, her shoulder still stiff from the bites. She walked out into the sun and sat down at her den door. Redfur trotted over and smiled. “I heard you got everything worked out with Thunderpaw” Lilly nodded. “I feel so much better” Redfur let his smile grow wider. “Yeah. Just now I’m wondering who the hell your gonna actually want to be with” Lilly smiled back. “Like I said, no one” Redfur shrugged and muttered as he walked away. “Oh, how I wait for the day that…” Lilly shook her head before standing up and walking towards the entrance of camp. She smiled as she passed by Redfur’s mother, Rose. Her red fur glowed almost as bright as Redfur’s did when the sun hit it right. Delilah was talking to her and laughing. Lilly passed by Sharptooth and quickly sped up her pace, wanting to avoid her evil glare. Luckily she was too busy looking around camp for Redfur, her white pelt shinning brilliantly in the sun. She smiled as she spotted Redfur and trotted toward him. Lilly sighed in relief as she exited the camp unapproached by any other wolfs. She smiled and breathed in the morning forest air deeply, looking around the trees and brush. A light breeze flew by and only a little moisture in the air remained from the early morning mist. Suddenly a voice boomed behind her. “Lilly” Lilly closed her eyes and unwillingly turned around. Dusty smiled down at her. “You’re cleaning out dens today. Yours, mine and Delilah’s, Jaybird’s, and Redfur’s” Lilly nodded and Dusty smiled. “Have fun” © 2010 SamanthaAuthor's Note
