Chapter Two

I woke to a slam of a door. I sat up and looked around carefully. Where was I? What happened? Am I ok? I looked around the dimly lit room I was in. I was lying on a very old and uncomfortable bed. The floor was cement and looked dirty. The room was cold. In the corner was a door that had been left open. I could see a toilet and a shower inside. I sighed as I realized I had been put into another prison. I looked around the small room until I found the door that had slammed. I cautiously walked towards it. It was a thick wooden door, with a small rectangle letting light in. There were four metal bars that covered the window. I looked out to see a long hallway. No one was near.

“Hello? Is anyone there?”

Nothing. Just a soft echo.

“Please help! I don’t know why I’m here!”

I heard a grumble and suddenly there was a man in front of the door. He looked around forty, wrinkles lightly lined his eyes and mouth, but most of all, his forehead. He had blue eyes and was bald. He smiled at me.

“Hello, Princess Elizabeth”

“Uh… Hi”

“I’m sorry to have frightened you, and I’m sorry about the bump on your head”

I didn’t realize until he had said anything, but my head throbbed. I felt a bump on it. I gasped in pain before removing my hand. It had blood on it. I looked down at it shocked. I was bleeding. In a dirty place. Kidnapped by strangers. I was officially scared out of my mind.

“Why did you do this to me?”

I looked away from my hand. He let his smile fade.

“Are you bleeding?”

I nodded and he grunted before walking away.

“Wait! Where are you going?”

I shivered as I realized how cold it was. I walked back to the bed slowly and sat on it. I was still in my nightgown. It didn’t look torn or anything, just a little dirty. I could still see my tear stains on the thin blue fabric. I shivered again and pulled my legs up to my chest. I put my hand on my head again. The bump wasn’t too big, but it still hurt and was bleeding.

I jumped when the door opened. I scooted back against the wall, afraid of what the man that had just came into the room would do. I noticed a big box in his hands, and a smaller one on top of that. He set the box down before lighting a few candles so the room would brighten up. Soon I could see his face. He was young; he looked like he was around my age. He had short black hair and blue eyes. He smiled at me.

“Hello. I’m Luke. Leroy’s son”

I didn’t reply. I just looked back confused. He nodded.

“The bald guy, blue eyes, one that hit you. Speaking of which, he’s sorry about that. He’s making me bring you blankets and clean clothes and all that. Can I see where he hit you?”

I looked at him blankly. He rolled his eyes.

“Look, I’m supposed to clean it. The sooner I do, the sooner I can get out of here. I don’t want to be in here anymore than you want me to”

I was suspicious of him but I turned around anyways and faced the wall. I heard him walk towards me and felt as he pushed my hair aside.

“How painful is it?”

“A lot”

He dapped something cold and wet on it. I flinched at first but let him continue as the pain eased. He held something against it for a few moments and then handed it to me.

“It’s a washcloth. Press it against it for a while and the bleeding should stop. Anything you’ll need will be in the box”

He rolled his eyes as he walked towards the door mumbling.

“Please enjoy your stay here at the castle, yadda yadda yadda”

And the door shut behind him. I shivered and looked down at the box. I opened it and peered inside. There was a nice dress and some shoes, a hairbrush, and a few blankets. I looked back up at the door before grabbing the dress and walking into the bathroom to change.

The dress fit nicely. It was a beautiful tan average dress, with long sleeves that flared at the wrists. It had a brown corset in the middle, tied up on each side of the torso by ribbon. It was semi low cut, but I was used to that. The dress fell down to my ankles. It was definitely not the clothing I was used to, being royalty and all, but it covered me up and was thicker than the nightgown I was previously in. I liked it more than any dress I had worn before.

I wrapped the blanket around me and sighed when I began to warm up. Then I looked out the window that had bars on it. The sun had just begun to creep over the horizon. I wrapped the blanket around me more and walked back to the door.

“Is anyone there?”

Leroy, the bald man with blue eyes walked up to the door.

“Uh, Leroy, right?”

He nodded.

“Uh, why am I here, exactly? And what is going to happen to me?”

“Well, once your parents give us the ransom money, we will let you go”

“Ransom money… You want money?”

He nodded.

“Why else would we kidnap a princess? For the fun of it?”

“I don’t know… What happens if they don’t pay the ransom?”

Leroy looked at me for a second and then walked away.

“Wait! What is that supposed to mean?”

I sighed and sat down against the door. At least now I wouldn’t have to get married. I could put it off until my parents came and got me. Watch, they would somehow find a way to blame this as my fault. Maybe being prisoner would be better than going home.

I stood up and looked back out the door.

“Leroy?”

No answer.

“Hello? Anyone?”

Still no answer. I listened carefully and heard whispers. I couldn’t make out what they were saying, they sounded like they were arguing. Suddenly there were footsteps heading my direction. It was Luke, the guy that had given me the dress. He looked at me questionably.

“What?”

“Oh, uh, hi! Uh, thanks for the dress”

“No problem”

He sat down against the wall across from the door.

“What happens if my parents don’t pay the ransom?”

“They will”

“What if they don’t?”

“They will”

“But what if they don’t”

“Then your fiancé will”

I shuddered.

Please don’t call him that. Besides, he doesn’t have money”

I knew this wasn’t true; my mother loved him for his money. But he didn’t like spending his money. Luke looked at me.

“I know he has money. Even if he didn’t, your parents will pay for you”

“You don’t know my parents then”

He gave me a look.

“You’re a girl. Someone will pay money for you”

“Ok, well, at the very slight chance someone doesn’t, what would happen to me?”

He just looked at me. I took a deep breath.

“Would you kill me?”

He raised an eyebrow.

“Probably. That doesn’t mean start crying, because begging me to not kill you won’t do a thing. I’m not the boss”

“Leroy is?”

“Nope”

“Who?”

He smiled.

“That’s for me to know and you to wonder about”

It was quiet for a few moments.

“Is there something I can do besides sit in here?”

“You’re bored? Out of all things?”

I nodded. He gave me a look.

“Well, I guess that’s why dad sent me here”
I gave him a questioning look.

“So you’re supposed to be my entertainment?”

“Yep”
He held out his hands.

“Surprise”

I glared out the bars.

“This is gonna be a long day”

“Yep”
It was quiet again as I played with my fingers. He sighed.

“So, how old are you, anyway?”

“Seventeen. You?”

“Nineteen. What about your fiancé?”

“He’s seventeen, too”

“What's he like?”

“A jerk”

He laughed.

“Do you like him?”

“I thought the ‘him being a jerk’ was obvious enough? No. He likes my parents, doesn’t like me… Well, my personality. He had no problem kissing me against my will”

“And King Erick didn’t chop off his head?”

“No, they like him. They don’t believe me”

He smiled.

“That’s gotta suck”

I glared at him.

“Well, taking care of a princess for a prisoner can’t be much more fun”

“Nope. It’s boring”

“What do you do around here?”

“Anything I want. Unless my dad tells me something. He’s pretty much the only person I listen to.”

“So you do whatever you want whenever you want?”

“Yeah, I guess”

“You’re a rebel?”

He chuckled.

“Usually people yell that at me before they try to kill me, but yes”

I looked at him carefully.

“People try to kill you? Why?”

He pointed at himself.

“Bad guy”

Then he pointed at me.

“Princess”

Then he pointed at ground.

“Prison cell thing. This is only a part of my job”

I shifted so I was putting more weight on my other leg and he looked at me.

“You want a chair”

“No. I like feeling like I’m not royalty. It’s nice”

“You’re weird. I would give a lot to be royalty”

“It’s exciting for about five minutes. Life isn’t interesting when you have everything you want”

“Do you have everything you want?”

“No. Money can’t buy happiness”

“Why aren’t you happy?”

“Because I’m not free. You are. Of course you break the law and are probably a wanted criminal, but at least you’re free”

He gave me a curious look.

“You have got to be the weirdest princess I have ever met. Usually the ones that come through here want to sit in the corner and cry and complain and all you have bitched about is being bored”

I smiled.

“Thanks?”

“Your welcome”

He looked at me for a second then looked down the hall.

“I gotta go get food for you”

He sighed and rolled his eyes. I smiled.

“Sorry about you having to be a servant person”

He nodded.

“Thanks”

And then disappeared.

I was lying on the bed, starring at the ceiling when Luke came in. He smiled at me, carrying a tray.

“Breakfast”

I sat up.

“Thanks”

He handed me a tray that had a sunny side up egg and a piece of toast. To my surprise he sat against the wall across from me.

“It will warm up in here as the day goes on. It sucks when its winter in here”

I nodded and dug into the breakfast. He looked out the window.

“When you’re done, wanna go outside?”

I gave him a look.

“Outside? I thought I was a prisoner”

“Yeah, but you’re the most well behaved prisoner I have ever seen”

“Couldn’t you get in trouble?”

“Eh”

“Aren’t you afraid I could run away?”

“I’m pretty sure I can handle you”

“But on the off chance I did get loose, what would happen to you?”

“Do you wanna go outside or not?”

“Yes, I’d love to. You make it sound like I’m a dog, though”
He chuckled.

“In a way you are”

I glared at him and promptly tossed a piece of toast at him. I couldn’t help but laugh at the facial expression he gave me in response.

I really like it and I like the new guy. Way better than her fiance. (:
I saw a few grammer errors but nothing major.
Can't wait to read more.
