Chamomile is a herbal tea that people have used to treat anxiety for centuries. You can buy it as dried flower heads, infusion (tea), liquid extract, tinctures (concentrated in alcohol), and in creams and ointments. People often use German Chamomile to treat many many things other than anxiety, including chest colds, slow-healing wounds, abscesses, gum inflammation, and a variation of skin conditions. Roman Chamomile as a tea is often used to treat upset stomach, sleeping problems and menstrual pain.
Chamomile is safe for the most part. Some people can have an allergic reaction to it, people who are allergic to ragweed pollen, you may not be able to use Chamomile and could also interfere with people taking blood thinners (anticoagulants). ALWAYS TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STOPPING A MEDICATION OR STARTING ONE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY BE DANGEROUS. ESPECIALLY IF PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING.
