The Note

The Note

A Chapter by Kwenxaku
"

A note is a helpful thing. It can lead to what you want to know.

"
It was morning and the girl still hadn't awoken. Blaze and I were both dressed, him out looking for 'breakfast' and me, waiting for the girl to wake up.
She finally did, the sight of brown eyes, with a hint of gold, roaming the room.

She slowly sat up, looking around tiredly, rubbing her eyes.
''Where am I?'' She asked, her voice soft and sweet.
''You're at my apartment.'' I said, and approached her, sitting on the edge of the bed.

''My name is Nalla. What is your's?'' I asked.
''I...I'm...'' She frowned, confusion in her eyes. ''I'm...Elis.'' She said.
''How old are you Elis?''
''...6.''
''Do you remember last night?'' I asked her.
She nodded.  ''Do you remember what happened?''
She nodded again. ''Do you remember where you were?''
She sat still for a moment. Thinking. Then shook her head.

''What do you remember about last night?'' I asked.
''...it was raining.'' She said.
''Yes. And who was there?'' I asked.
She sat quietly for a moment, thinking.

''...three big meanies.'' She said. ''AND DADDY!'' She shrieked. But then her face fell, and she pouted, crossing her arms. ''But I don't like daddy. He's mean and smelly. Make me cough.''

I thought for a moment. So the old guy...he...he was her father.
But I had to be sure.
''What did your daddy smell like?'' I asked.
''Uhm...'' She thought for a moment.

''Did he smell like, beer or alcohol?''   She shook her head.
''What about sweaty socks?''
''Nooo.'' She said with a giggle.
''What about smoke?''
''Yes! Yes! Yes!'' She squeaked, bouncing up and down. ''Make me cough.''

From that I was sure of my accusations.
''My tummy hurts.'' She said sadly.
''Are you hungry?'' I asked.
She nodded.
''What do you eat?'' I asked.

''Uhm...'' She said thinking. ''ICE CREAM!''
''Don't you want more then that?''
''McDonalds!'' She shrieked.
''Alright.'' I said. And just as I said it, Blaze burst through the door.

Elis jumped, startled, and curled up against me.
''It's okay, Elis. It's just Blaze. Don't worry. He's a big goofball.'' I said smiling. She giggled.
''Did you get the clothes for Elis?'' I asked Blaze.
''Who's that?'' He asked clueless-ly.
I sighed and pointed to the girl sitting on the bed.
''OOOOH.'' He realized. ''Yep.''

He handed me a bag and I pulled out the clothes.
''Blaze!''
''What.'' He said.
''You got her boy clothes.''
''So?''
''Sooo, she's a girl.'' I groaned. ''Come on Elis.''

Pulling her into the bathroom, I helped her shower and dressed her in the jeans and t-shirt.
Blowing out her hair, I left it loose, allowing her curls to move freely.
''Oh you look beautiful.'' I said fluffing her hair. She giggled and I grabbed a-hold of her hand, leading her out of the bathroom, and let her sit on the bed.

Calling up room service, I ordered her a cheese burger and fries, and an ice cream cone. Chocolate. Her favorite.
Though, oddly, she found the human food, tasteless. But she ate it anyway, thankfully, to feel her stomach.
Of course, she soon found it had taste.

As soon as she was finished, I took her to get a few cute new clothes.
After getting the clothes, we shopped for shoes.
''So do you have a mother?'' I asked her.
''Yes.'' She said, as I slipped her on a pair of sketchers.
''Do you know where she is?''
She nodded.  ''Where?'' I asked.
''London.''

My heart sank to the Earth‘s core. (not literally of course)
''How did you get from London, to bloody Cali?'' I asked.
''Airplane. I flew with daddy, and Rodney.''
''Who's Rodney?''
''Bubba!'' She exclaimed.

So she had a brother in California as well.
''Do you know where your brother is?'' I asked, slipping off the shoes.
''Uhm...he gave me a piece of paper. And he said, if something goes wrong, give it to someone for help.''

''Do you still have the note?''
''It was in my pants.'' She said.
Her pants? Where had I put her pants?  I thought for a long moment.
The laundry basket! It was almost lunch so the maid would be coming to get the laundry soon.
Crap! Grabbing Elis's hand I rushed to the counter and paid for the shoes, quickly leaving the store.

''Get on my back.'' I said. She hopped on, and I held tight to the bags.
''Hold on tight.'' I said and rushed to the apartments.
Swooping up the wall with ease, I hung there, tossing the bags through the window, then Elis, then me.

Blaze was sitting on the bed, looking through a journal.
''Has the maid come yet?'' I asked.
''Nope.'' He said.
I quickly ran to the bathroom and pulled out her pants. Searching them, I found no note.
I ran back out. ''Are you sure the note was in your pants?'' I asked Elis. She nodded.

''Are you sure?''  She nodded.
''Wait...no...it fell out of my pocket when I was pushed against the wall.'' She said.
''Watch Elis.'' I said to Blaze, and left the room through the window.
I raced off to the alleyway. Searching the alley, I found that the three teens were gone.

Though luckily I did find the note.
Although most of it was wet and smudged, it was readable.

If you're reading this note, then you must have rescued my sister from something terrible. I knew it would happen, I had a feeling, but there was no way I could stop my father from taking her, no way I could resist from leaving my mother in London.
Please, if you have her, don't hurt her. Keep her safe, and make no hesitation to contact me. Here's my escape address. Bring her to me. She needs to be returned to London. She needs to learn what she truly is.

                           801 Dark Street Drive
 Jeans berg, California
   Home Number 815

Please return to me my dear sister. And whatever you do, please, do not allow anyone to have her. If anyone comes to you saying they are me, do not give her away, I will not come to you, I need you to come to me. I do not trust many people.

(I hope I was right, and I'm not setting myself up to be killed.)
I sighed deeply, shoving the note in my pocket.
