Star Light, Star BrightA Poem by ToriWhen you wish enough, sometimes it comes true. The stars: creamy white in the dark canvas of the sky Glittering with hopes and wishes and prayers and desire Each one with your name attached to it. I sat outside every. single. night. My blanket drawn tight around my shoulders My mug of tea grasped tightly in my small hands And whispered your name fervently to the heavens Hoping, wishing, praying, desiring That one of those glittering creamy-white sparkles Would pick it up, deliver you to me So we could finally be the lovers That we read about in storybooks. Every Single Night I wished for you, and you alone.
Tonight, you are sitting my my side My blanket loosely drawn around our shoulders Our mugs of tea sitting together on the porch next to us. Your big hand covers my small one And your shoulder makes the best place for my head to rest. A shooting star crosses the dark canvas of the sky And you whisper my name As I whisper yours. I smile as I look up to those creamy-white sparkles And think, think so hard I swear they can hear me: “Thank you.” I wished for you, and you alone. And you’ve finally come true. © 2009 Tori |
