Departure, Return

Departure, Return

A Poem by xSummer'sPatient
"

A more traditional poem than my last. The quote at the beginning and end are from an old Evanescence song called "October"

"

“All the times I’ve tried

To walk away from you

I fall into your abounding grace

And love is where I am”

Reality set itself upon me

It barreled down hard

In the guise of a soft, delicate leaf

In the heart of the autumn woods

I journeyed home

Haunted by the spirit

The ghost of a leaf

A lost stray, stalking its prey

So vibrant and red

The climax of color

The illusion of life

The nearing of death

Our story entwined

In the veins of a leaf

We dance in the wind

Slowly falling to the earth

With realization downing like a storm

I journey to nowhere

To somewhere

Where the nothing dwells

After cutting my strings

My heart disconnected

I built my new home

And homeless was I

My disjointed heart

Unable to breathe

Caved in under the nothing’s pressure

Sanctuary, its final plea

So I whispered your name

Alone and aloud

And no sugar was ever as sweet

As the syllables forming so softly on my lips

“All the times I’ve tried

To walk away from you

I fall into your abounding grace

And love is where I am”
