While you lay in gold!

While you lay in gold!

A Poem by Darkblushedink
"

How heartless my love were you!

"

Dear my darling,

Don’t ask of sweetness,

My goblet of sugar has broken to pieces,

Dear my soul,

Don’t ask me for hope,

My envelope of desire,

Has shred to pieces,

Don’t ask me of budding flowers,

The fire has burnt them all to pieces

of ash….

When the sky was clear,

And earth fragrant,

With the smell of red blood,

When the smoke was rising from the distance,

Into aching hearts,

When the martyrs lay scattered,

On the weeping moorlands,

Holding onto life,

The horror of after battle thrive,

The grass drank flowing blood,

Like the human drinks red wine,

With no other potion to quench it’s thirst.

And the dark sky explored the universe,

For a star to glisten it’s dried eyes,

When I lay bleeding with all my life,

Mingling in the cauldron of disease,

You lay bathing in the pearls of the sea,

For when the night was darkest,

You saw no dark sky,

Lounging in jewels and sweet fruit,

With chandeliers above your eyes,

While I bled in a battlefield,

Young sang a thousand lullabies,

These lullabies came to me like a thousand curses,

Because when I needed you

You weren’t by my side,

Now don’t ask to drink from my goblet of love,

You are the one that broke it,

If you try to drink from it your red lips will only bleed,

Don’t ask for forgiveness and another chance,

I don’t wish to see,

How many battlefields while I lay detested,

You’ll lay in sweet sleep,

Don’t ask me of hope for a better us,

Life and love are mere dreams,

Between these I chose life as best,

And this is what it seemed,

And after war,

Don’t ask of flowers,

The battlefield was burnt down,

These fragrant flowers,

Died in ashes and

Now the only fragrance the breeze carries,

Is that of a martyr’s blood,

You don’t deserve the love I gave,

For when I needed it back

you weren’t there for me,

I lay dying and you lay living,

With only few miles in between,

Don’t ask for my love,

The love I once gave,

I am off to another battlefield,

And you off to betray,

So go find some other knight in shining armor,

I go to war like a peasant,

And don’t ask to drink from,

My heart’s wine glass,

Because I’ll give it to a better lover,

Dear darling of my heart,

Don’t ask of my heart anymore,

It’s broken pieces lay shattered,

In the battlefield,

While you lay in gold!

"i lay dying and you lay living" a very perceptive line...provokes much thought...

lots to this i like...for me it gets a bit long...and might be tightened up to have slightly more impact.

and in the first stanza, the repetition of "pieces" three times was a little distracting..would like to see some other words (synonyms) used in a couple spots there.

but this poem really has soul...deeply felt emotion with the speaker.

you really "lay" it all out there...

moving.
