Scene of the Loss

Scene of the Loss

A Poem by J. M. Thompson
"

Have you ever pondered defeat in battle? Well, this is my illustration of just that...

"
We marched across the plain,
Oh what a sight to see:
Two hundred thousand men,
Opposite to me.

Left, right, left, right
Oh what a sight to see:
Two hundred thousand men,
Multiplied to three.

“Halt!” cried my general,
Oh what a sight to see:
Three hundred thousand men,
Letting steel free.

Friends falling cold around me,
Oh what a sight to see:
Three hundred thousand men,
Faces wrought with glee.

Bang! Snap! Thunk.
Oh what a sight to see:
An unknown man across the way,
Takes my life from me.

Gasping on the earth,
Oh what a sight to see:
Three hundred thousand men,
Sounding our defeat.

I draw my final breath,
I hear the grim decree:
Three hundred thousand men,
Shout in victory.
