Ugly Scars

Ugly Scars

A Poem by Megan

My blood pulses
Scars from old wounds reveal themselves
All with a different story
A different past
Ugly scars they are
But through your eyes they are not seen
the different shapes and severity
some cut so deep within me it’s a wonder I’ve survived
in my mirror I see all of them staring back at me
I see all of the different stories
That stitch together my past
Yet you don’t see them
You look into my crystal blue eyes
And call me beautiful
Through my ugly scars and broken form
You see me
The me I saw before I received these permanent reminders
Reminders of pain and agony
You look past the ugliness of the old me
And the people who broke me
You hold me in your arms
Where I know I could spend an eternity
And as I lay there and you kiss me softly, they disappear
My agony and struggle are gone
The butterflies that race throughout my stomach let me know its alright
My past is slowly fading
I will always have these scars
But every moment I spend in your embrace
They fade away
And as my future slips into the past
I am healing.
