The Last December

The Last December

A Poem by Aries
"

Winter has always comforted me with its cold apathy, now it's time to move on.

"

the way the trees hold snow
to their limbs and at their base, leaves far gone
with a lonely glow
had my heart in the same way encased

I found faith in my solitude
to be assured that I was,
with a heart solidified and glacial as
the ice in my veins, alone once more

I could live like this;
a winter tree
Amongst ten thousand others, embracing the season
 just like me

We tried to keep leaf, as Fall turned us warm
the irony heaping the ground
in bright colours of what shouldn't be, baring our arms
for the coming storm,

perhaps it would be best to stay this way,
in preparation of the Fall to come?
As to not chance tears coloured of the yellow sun
and the reddest of blood
A reminder of the distance that may become
between leaf and limb, hand and hand
I can't take part if I refuse to stand

But I will, to defy the odds
To endure this winter and the ones to come
March my strength, my fiery resolve
with my newfound heart beating strongly
as I grow my leaves anew,
to last until my hardened skin is scored with age
and the leaves still about me,
turning in the wind like a weathered page
a testament to my dedication for you
