Lockbox

A Poem by Aries
"

What is a secret?

"
A secret is a demonic temptress
the succubus of knowledge
in its grotto of vile desire
a corruption of pleasure

it brings you to the exotic shade of Mt. Vesuvius
then cashes in on its debt
and laughs for decades as you rot
beneath stone that falls in volleys of fury

because a secret is an iron rod
that lightning will scream to
thunder will call for
and a strong enough magnet will find

A secret is a loaded gun
always pointed under your chin
and the trigger is the truth

I loved this work....dark menacing undertone and all, packaged all cutely in the middle of this page, perhaps safely stashing secrets..well done.

What's in a word, they say...and true enough words are just symbols and metaphors that we have learnt to recognize. It's the essence of the word, the memories we associate with them that count. Even a dumb dictionary knows the meaning of the word "secret" but it can never know the true essence of it. Meanings are memorized, essences are felt... summing the meaning of a word up with more words does no good, making the reader feel that word..well, that is something different.
I applaud this attempt of yours at unravelling the secrets behind the word... :)))
