The Anatomy of Tragedy

The Anatomy of Tragedy

A Poem by Wynter Page

Shake out the crumpled spine

with secret memories inside.

What's the name?

What's the name of that love you let die?

Don't make a sound

when you figure it out.

Cause tragedy can see into your eyes.

It cut your heart out

when your body was asleep.

Drained the you right through your veins

because tragedy needs to eat.

And nothing God could say

could make sense to you now.

You fell out of his thoughts

when love damned you down.

You've given all you've given

and there's still more it could take.

Because in this life, there is no fairness,

just more graves to make.

Before you begin again,

remember what you've missed.

Remember the stolen chances.

Remember just whose knives you've kissed.

In the anatomy of tragedy,

you're alone on a battlefield.

Another bloody warrior

whose too afraid to feel.
