Embracing Nothingness

Embracing Nothingness

A Poem by Willard Wells
"

Addiction is overtaking our world

"

the warmth of the flow embraces me

slowly it moves through my veins

carried willingly by my blood

touching nerves throughout my body

while slowly shutting them down

so the darkness comes closer

embracing my soul

with dark intent to leave all

feelings within a conscious mind

outside of my reality

so there is no need to deal

with life beyond the hand in my face

I don't have any experience with this. So this was very chilling to read. Maybe they feel too much and just can't cope, finding ways to numb it all. Very sad and dark road to walk alone. It seems the things we seek to ease becomes the very thing, we create.

Hopefully, they can find the way to recovery and healing.

Nicely written and thought-provoking piece.

Willard Hi. Like other folk, I thought this flowed very well and painted a dark image. Just to add a different slant, I thought it may interest you that my immediate reaction was that this was about drowning, as indeed perhaps in some ways it is. In Britain there have very recently been several deaths of holidaymakers getting into difficulties with incoming tides on coastal walks on the rocks or just caught by currents, so drowning is on the news quite a lot at the moment.

Well done!

This is so well crafted and oozes the struggles of the mind, as well as the body, of being addicted in more than just the phrase. It shows the person, the mind, the thought and how it can be overtaken, but never completely consumed, as such words and moments of clarity as your write show perfectly. Superb.

You are correct. I just see so many coming in from a mental health or stress position.

Yes, I cannot disagree.
Addiction is a terrible disease...and a growing problem. People want to escape reality, but the truth is, reality is still there and will be waiting at the end of the high. Well written. Lydi**

Thanks Pete. I appreciate your kind words and your time in reading my work.
The dark corridors of an addicts mind is indeed a lonely place, and all too frequently visited. Although I understand the attraction of life in the rabbit hole, I'll take the harsh reality that life presents.

This is a great write Willard. This is the first piece I have read in a while by anyone and I read it, re-read it and really put myself into those words and felt the emotion from the feelings behind it. As I read it the second time it was almost as if I could feel the way the blood was taking it throughout the body hitting each nerve one at a time slowly shutting reality out and embracing the dark escape. I loved your work Willard :)
