Great Beyond

Great Beyond

A Poem by Willard Wells
"

Final Word? NOT, for many years.

"

When my journey comes to the end,

let me find the strength

to know the truth.

Showing some kind of dignity

as I pass to the great beyond, near my God.

I leave little behind to know of me,

except the words I have penned,

with very little hue.

Just my heart and soul to view.

The words I write are my truth,

right or wrong, good or bad.

It is my truth of who I am

or at least as far as I can tell.

We can only hope that someday our words are read by unknown eyes, stumbling upon them and remembering that long distant relative and the words they shared. Beautifully written.

Hoping for more would be a waste of energy. Thank you for reading my work.
Your sentiments are much like my own. We try to leave pieces of ourselves behind that will be of some value to someone. Hopefully, they'll think we weren't so bad.

This was really touching. I think it applies to almost all of us. It's for us, the writers. What are we without the words we pen down as we bleed into the page? Our legacy is written in words and tales. Not in heroic deeds nor in amazing accomplishments. Just in words.
I really found this relatable. Thank you for sharing this. :)

Yes you are only remembered in the now, the moment, for over time unless written in history or some lost journal on poems by Willard, time will erase all thoughts involved esp as the family tree gets longer and longer whereby in the end you are remembered as just a name! at the top!

Nothing to be sorry about. Just a conversation. I was smiling as I read your words.
Men cannot possibly write truth. Their writing is only good to be claimed by women. Once the authorship is ascribed to a woman, only then do the words become truth. Women will devour all the work of men, because it is truly the work of women.

There is so much we do not leave behind. Sadly what we do leave in a few years will mean nothing to anyone. Life just keeps going on generation after generation. Valentine

Yes, these are your concrete legacy. And think, in future generations, how wonderful to read the poetry of your great great great grandfather. It forms a sort of temporal bridge between centuries, or even dimensions.
The last two lines are sellar, ringing of personal and universal truth.

Yes, as poets we leave behind a legacy of words. Through our words, others can know who we were and what we stood for. Really, what more can we hope for? I liked this. Lydi*
