Reflections In My Face

Just being goofy

I look in the mirror,

seeing such a face.

The reflection I see

is a reflection of me.

Or at least of a

reflection of me at this time.

I see a smile, kind of

a mischievous grin.

Which gives pause to consider

what trouble I can get in.

It makes me happy

no one should be sad

As I look at my face

with great joy.

I laugh at all

of the wrinkles I found.

it's great when someone can look into the mirror and not get upset at physical flaws...those are what make us who we are...they are beautiful...and show experience and wisdom (those wrinkles)----

Well as a tired statement, "it is what it is" kind of dances in my head and like it or not what you see is what you get. I did point out to my love who was looking in the mirror with distress that beauty in appearance is different than what you see. Others see not just your physical appearance, but on your face they can see the goodness of your heart and soul which is more important than the physical. Thank you again Jacob for you words and visit.

The only bit of constructive criticism I would like to add is it rhymed in the beginning, then fell off, and picked back up again. I personally also try to avoid using the same descriptive word, in this case "sad", more than once in such a small piece.

This poem makes me want to stare into the mirror and pick out what I see and compare it to what others see.

I agree, but for many they look to their reflection and allow that to determine their future. So happiness and acceptance of the face you see can be very important. Beauty may only be skin deep, but the pain of not accepting yourself can be even more painful.

Very observant my friend. It is an evil twisted mind that warps the vision that we see sometime. No matte what we write, whether good or bad, someones mind doesn't function that way.
