Birthday Thoughts

Birthday Thoughts

A Poem by Willard Wells
"

JFK RIP

"

The opening of this day is early,

as I rise to wash my face and

have that first cup of coffee

and check in on the world this day.

This day in history many years ago,

I started out my day much the same

as I have today, though much younger.

And not as knowledgeable as today.

My day was filled with classes

which was just to kill time.

The excitement today was

my test to have a license to drive.

The day progressed and the excitement

grew, as I thought of my test

that was looming

and having the freedom I saw ahead.

Suddenly the world seemed

to stop as the word went out,

the President was shot

and we were all in shock.

Birthday or not, presents

didn't matter and license forgot.

From that day forward

this has always been part of my birthday thoughts.

I agree. Days events effect our birthday. Especially this day. Thank you Willard for sharing your words and thoughts.

My pleasure and you are welcome.
This is a beautiful way of including a terrible event and it brings to light a feeling that I couldn't previously put words to. Obviously a lot of thought was put into this piece. The anniversary of something wonderful while thinking silently about what else happened the same day, and feeling a personal connection to it somehow, as if it's up to you to carry it around and remember it. I really liked reading this, will keep it in mind.

Happy Birthday, Willard. It was also my mother's birthday, and like so many she knew where she was when she heard the news. Listening to the radio broadcast because the president was in Texas.
I think that.event.always casted a pall over her birthday after that, despite being married with children when it happened. She would mention it at least once every birthday. I'm sure others who have global events happen in their birthday remember also. I hope the rest of your day was a good one my friend.

It's always good but always the thought is there. Thank you for your kind words and visiting.
Some reminders are pleasant, others we wish we could forget. All we can do is live for the present and make the most out of each day. Valentine

The son of my sister was born on the day that the pope was shot 35 years ago now. So I know exactly what you point out so well in your writing. You were part of something bigger, a historic day. And every year you are reminded.

Well done.
