Honesty and Love

Reality of Self

As the love grows

strong with time,

it gives the feel

of always sharing

and being real.

But in reality

the love that grows

may not feel the same

if you open up

and are a bit too real.

We want to love,

and we want to share,

but what you want

and what you get

is not what you expect.

Sometimes the hidden self

and personal thoughts,

should stay right there

and not be shared.

But kept to self.

Often the thoughts

we want to share,

may be more than

we really

want to hear.

Oh my! You've penned a mantra of mine, and I certainly couldn't have said it better. What amazes me, as a bachelor, is how communication can break down so completely among intimate couples. They can have been married for thirty years or more, and I understand what they're saying to each other much better than they do! Your last verse sums it all up so very nicely and concisely.

honesty in a relationship is a tricky thing...
we may want that, but sometimes what we feel and then say may be left unsaid because it could be too hurtful...

Long time no see Willard. This is really a good poem, every line of it, it speaks the truth.
Why? because I've through it.
We want love and we want to share but maybe sharing to much isn't the case, it isn't going to help. I've have the cases where the people whom I've most love and share my story of life with them (In other words, they know everything about me) Are the one's who have either left me the quickest or changed.
I really this poem, keep it going and thanks for sharing.
