Finding the Light

Sun no longer

shining in the sky.

Clouds taking over

blocking the blue.

Sadness and despair

comes around me now.

Lack of light

and cold in the air.

Winter is near

and depression close behind.

Looking at every day

as a dark night within my life.

Darkness and lack of light

bring me sadness and grief.

In my mind thoughts

run deep into darkness.

I cannot despair

or lose my mind.

I must pull together

and find the light.

Winter months can be depressing due to lack of sunlight. You are right when you say, "I cannot despair or lose my mind. I must pull together and find the light." The darkness is temporary and the light always returns in due time....keep seeking it. Nicely written. Keep writing.

I don't generally slip to the level of depression I write about. I have controlled or limited depression. My words are a reflection of people I have know and from some issues of my own. 8 and a half years in Alaska made be very familiar with this issue. Thanks for stopping by and reading. I owe you lots of reads. Just as information the longer pieces and stories I have trouble with and it takes me getting my brain in the right place for it to work. Take care.

Awesome wording Willard. I can always relate when you discuss weather or seasons as I'm not too far from you. Yesterday my kids had a day off from school and it rained all day. We stayed in and watched movies and it brought back memories of my childhood and the way it felt to just be stuck inside and the dark feelings that creep up with the cold and darkness of the clouds draining out the sun. Awesome write :)

Many people do not realize the fact that light can make or break you day. Light therapy is very important and helpful to many. Thanks for the visit and commenting. I like and need a little rain, but the dark and dreariness I can live without. Unless I need depression to help me write.

I watched a show called The Last Alaskans and they go months with very little day light. Listening to them describe the feeling was definitely eye opening... I couldn't imagine it.

Well my familiarity with light therapy comes from 8.5 years living in Alaska. School and prisons are starting to install special light to reduce the lack of light issues. Personally for me it was never an issue because I was always outside as a salesmen, but after retiring I am noticing it as something I need to be aware of.

The whole poem is really good, but those last words summed it all up. I can really relate to this, like sometimes I find myself trying to hold on to my thoughts and don't let other negative thoughts "speak" to me in my head, so that I don't lose it. It's a battle for light in the darkness, like your drowning in the ocean and you want to go up for air but there's something holding on that doesn't let you go.

I thought you would find something in it from the writings I have seen you do. I am an old man and let me assure you that all your life the battle is to stay within the light or at least at the edge.
