Shelter

a cold starry eve

homeless huddled in doorways

some will die this night

A very sad reality, expressed so well in 5-7-5. Nice work, Willard.

A sad place described in this poem. Cold of Winter does take many. Thank you Willard for sharing the powerful poetry.

You are welcome Willard.
It's so sad that while people are complaining about the turkey not being cooked right, there are people who are dying because of lack of shelter outside. It's amazing how you capture that in such a sort poem. The picture is painted beautifully. I can see the stars in the sky and the poor men trying to keep warm by staying close.

Thank you so much for your kind words and reviewing my work.
Rather the sad true. I've once seen a homeless woman sheltering and sleeping in a doorway. She was drunk too, but I guess in such a situation she was drinking to forgett. Well done. :-) Rudi

Some also think of drinking as a way to stay warm. In reality it just numbs the brain to the cold.read more
That is a sad reality. Particularly in parts of the word where the nights are cold. There are social programs to help homeless but unfortunately not enough seek help. It's mainly illness that pushes them to the street.

A very good expose of a sad social indictment Willard. Several areas in the UK have tried to impose bye-laws criminilising rough sleeping. Thankfully they have been thwarted by a social backlash on Change.com! Many rough sleepers are suffering from a mental disorder, somewhere in the region of 80%

This one is okay.. I like the subject and image you convey, but I'm not in love with the repetition of the word night. Maybe " in cold winter's light" or something similar.

Much better this way and not as many changes. I put a contest pie e up tonight.
reminds me of when I first traveled to Mumbai .. the plane from Sydney gets in at 2:00am and when you leave the airport the first thing you notice is the thousands of homeless asleep on the streets, covered in cardboard, or not covered at all.. not sure what they do in Monsoon season ...

your words tell it how it is ... facts only .. leaving the emotion to the reader ... well done X

You are getting so very much better at this type of poetry.
