First Drought

First Drought

A Poem by Willard Wells
"

Evolution of drought

"

The elusive golden orb arises again,

In the land of clouds and rain.

The peasants gather to find water

And shelter from the evil demon light in the sky.

It's burned their crops,

And dried their land

Searching for relief and water wherever they can.

Starving and dying on this desolate earth.

The weather....we are never happy with it, are we? Either it is too dry and the grass dies or it is too wet and everything floods. If the sun is too bright, we are too hot and if the winter freezes we are not happy either. Your imagery is wonderful in this one. We can not control the weather, that's for sure. Lydi*

I suggest this as your second line: "a land once of clouds and rain"

Thank you Raj. I will consider. Thanks for visiting and commenting.
After three readings I am puzzling a little over this one Willard. The opening two lines suggest that it is a place where they do not see much sun ie elusive golden orb' and 'the land of clouds and rain' Sounds like England lol. But then the next two lines suggest somewhere in drought as does the second stanza. You have used land twice in the second stanza? Overall, from your word choice, it does give an impression of somewhere very hot and dry and where people suffer because of the heat.

I did change one "land". The idea was that the drought we are suffering now is not new. I wanted to .. read more
