Mother Earth

Mother Earth

A Poem by Willard Wells
"

Are we listening

"

Mother Earth

Sitting in the shadow of the afternoon light.

Filtered by the canopy of green.

As the heat waves spiral upward into the open air.

Watching the shadows of light and dark,

As the sun makes flashing streams through the canopy above

Not moving and lightly breathing,

Listening to the earth, to hear her breathe.

Silence is needed to hear her.

Her voice is soft, but don't let that fool you.

If we don't heed the warning and mend our ways,

Mother Nature will step up and unleash her rage

There's no stopping her once she is cross

So in that peaceful moment

When she speaks softly

Please take notice

Once she has spoken, she won't say it twice

She'll just demolish everything in sight!

And it would be just what we deserve--some of us, at least. Nature is marvelous and precious, but greed threatens to destroy everything, including us. I just don't get it. Like you, I want to sit in that green forest, looking up at the unfurling branches, framed by golden rays and azure sky. An outstanding poem, Willard, with a message of unparalleled importance. (No need to repay--I owe you this, plus some more)
