Normal

Normal

A Poem by Willard Wells
"

Addiction Driven

"

Addictions we have,

directly related to life's

low levels of dopamine.

Released by our brains.

Addictions drive our way of life,

Pulling more dopamine

To our veins.

Matching “normal people”

Unfortunately in life,

Sometimes we go too far.

And step off the end,

Of the edge of the blade

Good thought, Willard Wells. I never thought of addiction as a search for normalcy because of our dopamine levels before. i am a recovering alcoholic, with 10 years of sobriety, and your words have me looking back at my drinking days. I never reached "normalcy" as an active drinker, but I think it's what I wanted. I am still not "normal" but who in the heck is?! Good writing. Keep it up, please.

Williard, I am liking your poems here this morning. I would have to say that I am a 'normal' 65 wasp retired middle class American male. No Illegal vices, No legal vices, no hang up except a lover of Royal Crown Cola and I am having to give that up because of sugar content. I do not have a clue about dopamine. Just who is messing with my brain levels of this dopamine?
