Lost in the middle of the deepest realm of dark night,
Spirits were blurred by vivid images of impending fight.
Conscious minds lay bound in a fragile tense of dream,
As souls had crossed o'er path to inspect views unseen.
Past, present, futures tied in knots of "Come What May",
Evil forces unleashed plans devouring sunshine of day.
Air was infused with thoughts to render sane ones mad,
Dawning of prosperity veiled o'er by images drawn sad.
Pulses quickened while heart's beating did suddenly race.
Dreariness of past vanished rays of joy from truth's face.
Steps slowed as feet coursed o'er future's charted path.
Vile demons drenched pilgrim's body with a bloody bath.
Pending doom appeared as reality to ones weighed down.
Darkness shadowed brilliance of jewels in Heaven's crown.
Inner mirrors of the soul reflected reality as visibly blank.
Emotions were tossed to and fro on hope's ship as it sank.
Lost souls were plunged closer to flame of purgatory's fire.
Screams implored God to blot out scenes of bubbling mire.
Angels of good rallied, swords drawn to wage a Holy war.
Angels of evil assembled to battle to gather souls more.
Cries rang up into the Heavens for God to come and save.
Darkness was bid to leave in currents of salvation's wave.
A loud plea begged angels of good to lift up a battle shield,
As scripture promised evil would depart on God's battlefield.
A valiant fight was waged for captive spirits to be set free.
Prayers of freedom were uttered to grant release eternally.
The Holy Spirit heard sinner's pleas as truth was revealed,
As past belief that evil was truth was no longer concealed!
Jesus came to set the captives free.......
Hallelujah Lord!
Colossians 2:15 NIV And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

I've read this three times and found it more powerful and all-giving each time. The clash of good and evil, the fight between purity and sin .. always with us, has been, will. And you, Sheila, have put the words in order for us to read, digest, think about and remember.
Jesus came to set the captives free .. Hallelujah Lord!
Wow your spiritual style of poems comes across like a Sunday sermon. I love the battle of good vs evil and the light side and the dark side. What a wonderful poem and the images that you chose are perfect for this piece. Shelia you di your thang again.
Very profound, powerful and beautiful. I'm impressed here.
What you wrote is so truthful! It flows nicely, like the rhyme
and over all just a wonderful job.
WHEW! You really poured yourself out in this one didn't you. My heart breaks at times for all of the non believers like my husband...So I pray and pray for God not to give up on him..God bless..Kathie
You truly out-did yourself with this outstanding writing of good vs. evil. You so wisely describe the fight that begins within each of us on the day we are born. It started with Adam and Eve and will continue until Armageddon. With the sacrifice of Christ evil was exposed to the masses and truth reigned. But in our search for lifes pleasure we still tend to distort the truth and lean towards evil's lies. Shelia I will have to say this is absolutely a brilliant writing that says more than you could learn in a week at a school of theology.
Oh wow that was really something... the war between good and evil has been going on since Genesis and will continue forever, sadly one of the few givens in this life along with taxes. You have outdone yourself with this Epic war as you put it into poetic verse. Brilliant writing.
A powerful and moving write. It is thought provoking with its depiction of evil. But it is also inspiring and filled with hope knowing the Lord has already won the battle. Very well penned, my friend.
