Mommy and Daddy.........
What are those loud noises in the street?
What do you mean,
Our voice of freedom will now be obsolete?

Mommy and Daddy.........
Why are you both crying so many tears?
What do you mean,
We are greeting our greatest of fears?

Mommy and Daddy.........
Why have they taken every one’s gun?
What do you mean,
We must leave home and be on the run?

Mommy and Daddy.........
Why are men breaking down our door?
What do you mean,
We haven't any idea of what's now in store?

Mommy and Daddy.........
Why are you hiding our food and money?
What do you mean,
We'll no longer enjoy milk and honey?

Mommy and Daddy.........
Why are we wearing funny masks on our face?
What do you mean,
Toxic gas has neither detectable smell nor taste?

Mommy and Daddy..........
Why are they burning the books at my school?
What do you mean
We're now part of a mean government's rule?
Mommy and Daddy.........
Why are they taking our flag down?
What do you mean
You see them stomping it into the dirty ground?

Mommy and Daddy........
Did you not say
Some terrible things might someday happen to us,
If too many
Kept voices silent while choosing not to fuss?

Mommy and Daddy.........
Why did you say
We have not a democracy, but a bad dictatorship?
I am really scared......And, And,
And, starting to feel abandoned and so very sick!

PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME!
I ONLY WANT TO REMAIN FREE!
CAN'T YOU SEE
THIS IS THE DEATH OF OUR COUNTRY?

And Mommy and Daddy answered
Our dearest child........

The tides have turned on this fair land of ours!
Too many have looked the other way for too long!
Bad government, crooks, liars, have turned good milk sour.
Now we shall all lament as we wail a lost freedom song!
This is but a slice of havoc
In a world turned upside down!

I already got to hear this read to me but to come back and read it even makes it more powerful... your sharp biting questions raise a lot of awareness as to what is really going on in this country. Each stanza alone makes it's own statement but together show why it is hard to still call us the land of the free.

We need to make these symbols mean something again...

You, my dearest lady, are a true Patriot! Bravo!

You astutely recognize that no one of youth in this nation will/would have a clue to the real term that means, "a world turned upside down": Topsy-Turvy ... But I do, and I know exactly what this term does mean, and the implications of its meaning to America, or any nation in a state of political & ideological internal crisis ...

I love America, though it is most flawed and faulted in errors and wrong doings that all nation's do and their governments are guilty of ... I will not participate in destroying my own country, tearing down and obliterating its (wrongful but factual events of) history ... I am a Southerner who loves The South, yet attests that Slavery was inhumanly damn wrong ... I am a Southerner who also attests that the Union was wrong as well in accordance with the 1787 Treaty of Paris which ended the Revolutionary War with England, and which gave all thirteen colonies the implicit right to secede from said United States of America should the Federal government become intolerable and/or unjust ... Two wrongs have not made a right, and the aftereffects continue to linger on … And they do so, tragically, disguised as the Republican and Democratic Parties, much like a political version of that old feud betwixt the Hatfield's & McCoy's ...

And yet, I support the entirety of the United States of America (evil empire that it is and must be restrained and changed from continuance of operating and behaving as such a threat to its own people, and those unfortunate other weaker and tinier nations who find themselves invaded, conquered, and occupied by America beneath the guise of Liberation, Democracy, Freedom, & Liberty) every and all 50 states and those which may come in the future ... I am not a revolutionist in that extremist radical sense of destroying all that we have in blind minded thinking of creating something new without knowing what the hell we shall have if we bid our sacred Republic goodbye of adieu ...

For, as such did happen in Russia's Bolshevik Revolution, where people were led into acts of blind obedience to bullshit that informed the people of nothing as to which or what good/bad was to follow, as to what true existence the people of Russia would have and inherit after the revolution that was supposed to be a far better existence for all Russians than what they had before beneath the rule of Czar Nicholas & Alexandria ...

Fools acted in thinking they were seeking change, without a clue to the real change that was needed, was wanted, was necessary, and what would truthfully come about in a positive manner for the future of all Russians as a people ...

Therefore, based upon the imperfect history of national revolutions, worldwide, my idea of revolutionizing America is to correct the path of America itself, whilst preserving and protecting our Republic and its Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights Constitution of these sovereign United States of America ...

Be it know to all, my dear lady friend, I do not support the United Nations, or its UN Agendas 21 or 2030, and I sure as hell do not support the UN's Disarmament Agenda to disarm and confiscate all firearms from every citizen of every nation of this world, signed off on by Mrs. Hillary (ex-Secretary of State) Clinton, herself ...

Please forgive for rambling on, but I am a Patriot who is also a Moderate and not a damn right or left wing radical extremist ... The Second Amendment exists for good reason as per my shared thoughts to follow … I do hope that you will not be angry with me for sharing my heart here, below:

A very sobering write and how true. We need to pray like we have never prayed before, and you have certainly given us a lot of prayer points. I know you wrote this looking down upon our country as a whole, but this persecution is specifically coming to Christianity and the church as never before...and I am reminded of a quote by my Pastor that is actually quite encouraging for all of us that serve the Lord: "When the church is persecuted, she rises to the challenge and becomes stronger." Supposedly this is true throughout history. I am no history buff but my Pastor is-and I happen to believe that no matter what happens it is a win-win situation for us. May even be speeding things up for us all. :-)

this is beautiful.. our land and our country and our people used to be proud we used to fight for what we loved and not the government rule us. This is not a statement of anarchy but a statement of appreciation and dedication something you have and others do to. we need to used this passion and fire to set this decaying and decrepid system of our government ablaze and then we need to make a new before what your poem beautifully displays as our future.. good job you have giving many of us food for thought on this topic :)

A truly heartfelt cry to our leadership, to put down their wallets and calculators, disown their lobbyists and fire their spin-doctors, and take up the duties once more that they were first hired to do. In 1934, with Roosevelt initiating the bailouts policies, through 1957, with the Dr. Spock's convincing us that discipline was injurious, to the early Sixties, when God got his walking papers, this country had been steadily going to the dogs; if we are not in her last generation, our children surely are! Thank you for this beautifully crafted reminder, Sheila!

Wow....what a point of view upon our national standing within warfare. I mean, wow...ok.....let me gather my thoughts....Ok. I love the way you put the children in the driver's seat in this poem and you drove it home with them as the passion, the desire, and begging....as they plead for answers....from mommy and daddy...this work of art paints such a picture of a youth in question being brought to the front stage of the truth of humanity, and war. I love this....it paints a side that we rarely hear about on the news and one that many of us should not ignore as much as we do. Brilliant write once again Sheila! I love it.
