A Child's Prayers

A Child's Prayers

A Poem by Sheila Kline
"

As children we prayed the simpliest of prayers, but how powerful they are in their simplicity! These two childhood prayers express sentiments as prayed.

Author's Note

Sheila Kline
I have taken two simple childhood prayers and added thoughts of thanksgiving and protection.

A CHILD’S PRAYERS

A Child's Prayer of The Night

"Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take".
Amen

Now I lay me down to sleep.
Father, help me love to reap.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Kind words I speak or not a peep.
If I should die before I wake,
Forgive my sin and each mistake.
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
Embrace me in Heaven as I wake.
Amen

A Child's Blessing of Food

"God is great, God is good.
Let us thank Him for our food.
By His hands we are all fed.
Give us Lord our daily bread".
Amen

God is great, God is good.
Help me serve Him as I should.
Let us thank Him for our food,
For bountiful feast thus ensued.
By His hands we all are fed,
Nourished to serve as prayers are said.
Give us Lord our daily bread.
By Your great love we are led.
Amen

Sheila Bowyer Kline
In all things, give thanks unto the Lord!

And He opened His mouth and taught them saying,

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

The poor have reserves of vast wealth unseen and the tears of the children of God do not go unheard in the dark. Those who strive not to offend have conquered the world already. Those who hunger after truth will never go away empty. Forgive that you may be forgiven. The face of God is clear to those who love for God is love.Only those who seek peace shall find peace eternal as children of God. Do not be concerned by pain and suffering that comes from honest work and the effort to do good. Your reward is great.

Loving your thoughts today.

This is a beautiful prayer for children and adults alike. The presentation of the piece simply adds to the overall quaility of the poem. I truly enjoy your ink my friend.

Heavenly ink! :)
