Final Swallow!

Whiskey glass touches my thirsty lips.
I drink from it in repeated sips.
Bring solace now to my dismal day
In a drunken, blissful sort of way!

Liquid fire, come torch my fears untold.
Take away memories of times old.
Make me taste of golden nectar sweet.
Send adieu intense pangs of defeat.

Drink is gone with a final swallow.
In self-pity I ever wallow.
Cover me o’er with empty glasses.
Shards rip wrists--angst of living passes!

Love the Rhyming Sheila, I have written one on the same wave length
as this beauty called "I drink there for I am"...But I really felt the
depth of despair of this little ditty... Well done.

Hi Sheila, so often used as a cure-all for misery, but ends up creating more. A very insightful little piece, and well related in those rhyming couplets. Kudo's,

Whiskey in a cut glass seems like a good idea in the beginning. Then tomorrow comes..if you manage to just scratch the surface, that is. Angi~

It never really removes the pain - it just prolongs it! Thanks for your comments!!
Whisky is only a short-term answer.

You are so right Marie! It is sad so many use it as the "cure"!
