Go By Too FastA Poem by HughAnhagaA thought. As she drives to the airport, she wonders Will the plane will get her there on time? And as she wonders she passes him on a bike And he pedals fast so that he can be somewhere But he's not quite sure where And she stands in the coffee shop impatiently Wondering when she will get it Whatever it was she ordered, she can't recall And he wonders when she will be done So he can get whatever it was he wanted And they rush into the theater, shoulder to shoulder To get the best seats, so that they can see The show that they were all there to see "Is it an opera tonight?" She asked "I'm not sure" He replied, "But I hope its not too long" And after work he takes the train home And he stares at the wall, wondering Would the bus have been faster? And he tucks his kids in to bed and kisses his wife So that he can get to bed early And in the morning he takes the bus to work And decides that it is slower than the train But for some reason he doesn't care From the bus he can see the lake, where he used to swim every day When he used to have the time And he see's her driving to the airport And on his bike, and in the coffee shop And lining up at the theater, shoulder to shoulder And he see's the lake, and he gets off the bus And no one is there anymore, but he walks in And he floats in the water and he forgets Where it was he was even going anyway © 2016 HughAnhagaAuthor's Note
