Tear-stained Tea

Tear-stained Tea

A Poem by Theresa V

I lower my eyes and look into the
steaming cup.
Hazel covered blue eyes stare back,
boring into their own soul.
I continue to gaze into the mug,
watching as the gentle waves crash
against porcelain rocks.
I hold my breath: pausing the wind,
and observe as the current settles and stops.
Heat rises and softly touches the
looming blue clouds.
My eyes begin to sting, and saltwater
raindrops start to fall.
I force the rain to clear, and slowly raise
my head to allow sunshine.
Silently I watch the calm sea located
inside my cup.
Then as the ocean cools, I lift it to drink
my tear-stained tea.
