Who Stands Alone

Who Stands Alone

A Poem by Amanda Worthington

I see a girl
who stands alone,
but is not lonely.
Her head is high,
she smiles and waves;
but she is only in my head.
I wish I were her
because if I was,
I could walk with
confidence/
I could go unafraid,
I might even conquer the world.

And yet I see,
these stone cold statues
that don't feel,
that don't see,
but call themselves human.
How can I,
small in this world,
an insignificant life,
hope to conquer
something so big?
How can I
hope to be unafraid
in a world so fearful?

I don't know how.
There are no instructions,
there is no one to guide me.
Just me, myself, and I
to tell me where to go.

That is how I know,
that within all possibilities,
I could be that girl,
who stands alone,
but is not lonely
and conquers the world.

Author's Note

Amanda Worthington
I had a freakin' long doctor's appointment today in which I got inspiration to write this little peice. Seriously, I spent four hours in the hospital. It wasn't fun.

I haven't posted in a while so I hope you all like this :). Comments and constructive criticism are always appreciated.
