This World We Live In

This World We Live In

A Poem by Amanda Worthington

Does the world deceive me,
or do I perceive it right?
I get told one thing,
that goes against another.

Is everything I hear a lie?
How much of it is the truth?
What makes it so confusing
to pick out one form another?

why can't we live like we want to live,
think like we want to think,
Can't you accept us for who we are?
Because there's something messed up if we can't even do that.

You live in a world where everybody judges everybody else.
Where it's a crime to speak your mind.
And if it's not what they think it's automatically wrong.
If it's not what they want it's not right.

It's so hard
to find a place you fit in.
Where your ideas aren't rejected
where your ideas are prized.

Because we hear lots of white lies
that tell us we're prefect.
Nobody is perfect.
But we like to think we are.

This world deceives me.
I know I don't perceive it right.
I am told many things.
Only a portion of it is the truth.
