All We Can Take

All We Can Take

A Poem by Jamie

she steadies her hand

as she applies that black line.

it is definitive in her eyes.

the character built into her.

strong and fierce.

but underlying tears

just waiting to be cried.

applicable to the last day.

but after that,

the point will cease to exist

as the black line streaks flat.

crawling in smudges on the paper's pad.

i tell you, i'd bring courage

if it was anything i had.

but i left that at the welcome mat.

so we'll teach each other something new.

a way to get through.

some new type of coping,

and we'll bring back that beautiful sense of hoping

to the corner of your hazel eyes.
