Shoulda Coulda Wouda

Shoulda Coulda Wouda

A Poem by Michael J. Richards
"

Not based on a true story.

"
I could've just told you

But I didn't

Leaving you to wonder

If I really cared

But you never did find out

If I ever did

I should've pulled you back

But I didn't

Leaving you to get hit

By that car

That never stopped

I would've stepped in front of you

But I didn't

Leaving me to wonder

What would've happened

Had I been the one

To die

But now these

Shoulda

Coulda

Woulda's

Are plaguing my brain

Tricking me into thinking

It was all my fault

But I suppose

That it could've all just have "meant to be"

That I can't change what should've been

That it would've happened

Had I been there or not

So I resolve to just ignore

Those Shoulda

Coulda

Woulda's

Phew. I read the poem and THEN caught that it isn't a true story. That's a relief. I enjoyed your use of the popular "shoulda woulda coulda" but transforming it into a unique poem. It was clever and came together really neatly at the end. Good job.
