Writers Folly

A Poem by Steffi

Writers Folly

The words that flow

Splatter the pages like paint

Caressing the sheet like a fine silk

Drawing out my personage

Drowning my fever

The words that sour

Lick the putrescent wound

Casting me into everlasting fire

The calligraphy I created on paper

Now the hellion that burdens my name

The words that lay waste

Sidesweep the solidity of that vital spark

Causing the distress, the calamity, the plight

To bristle around my leery steps

A reckless abandon, to a forgotten hope

Loved this! It makes such a good point about the ups and downs of writing anything. The words are so powerful and really descriptive.

"The words that flow
Splatter the pages like paint
Caressing the sheet like a fine silk"

Those were my favorite lines. I can just see it! Great write Steffi :)

Now I can relate to this one entirely. Sometimes the words I write curse me. Each time I read them the pain is relived. For some odd reason poems about writing don't impress me, but you, my dear, have broken that mold. I am impressed!

I like this. It sais to me that writing is a release. When you do not write, then your dreams are abandoned and the stress of life piles up within you. I do not know if that is what you meant but that is what it said to me.
Thank you for sharing.

Well, if poetry isn't your strong point you must have other wonderful works I must read! I thoroughly enjoyed your work!

The words that sour

"Lick the putrescent wound
Casting me into everlasting fire
The calligraphy I created on paper
Now the hellion that burdens my name"

Great use of sensory words!

Brilliant piece! One of my favorites. I love words and I love how you use the imagery of artistry as well as pain to reveal the broad nature of words: what we write and what flows through our minds and hearts. Well done!

Captured the feeling very well...dropping lines down a wishing well and having them never return.

Very good write...reminds me of something I'll send to you 'Death of a Writer.'

Thank you, Steffi for the send. Excellent work.

Putrescent... is a fun word. Just on a side note. (:
The way you ended this was stellar. I really liked the last line; it really tied everything together.

I know exactly how that feels.
