To arrive at a final, epiphanic moment there must be quiet. There must be a gargantuan shift occurring in one's life when things are taken away and the simple act of buying something to eat gets closer to being a luxury. Yes, here I see I have seriously misjudged my place in the universe. Those feelings that you had not long ago of destiny taking a firm hand and finally showing you that mythical place where your life's passions culminate after a long wait were only that optimism which served you well before, but is now realized as being just a remnant of that unchanging attitude of childhood.
No destiny here I'm afraid. Whether benevolence or misery is the host of your life is a plaintive paradox. Good deeds seem to go unrewarded and evil people take the lions share of this world's riches; this is untrue. Good and bad deeds are rewarded or punished indiscriminately and at random. My giving money or food to the homeless man on the street does not translate into me getting rewarded in this life.
To end up next to the homeless man on the street also begging for food would be no less probable or possible. The cruelty in life is represented in these truths, and to arrive at that conclusion is enough to drive you insane with nihilistic terror. A state like this is akin to walking down a hallway where every door tried is locked save the last one at the very end. But when you open it there is only white, endless space. In the distance there is an object that becomes a wooden bench as you approach it. Standing on the hand-rest of the bench is a large black bird: a raven that stares at you with cold, depthless eyes.
I would like to say that this is a wonderful piece of writing. Your use of language and words is wonderful. Too many times people use simple words that don't hit as hard. I think you nailed it with thought-provoking word painting.
Also, your writing contains a lot of truth, in my opinion.
Thank you for this post and I look forward to seeing more of your work!

I think the best writing, the stuff that will last, we have to think deep and hard about before putting it down on paper. Thanks again.
Life is not fair and it really only becomes apparent to some when they are receiving the short end of the stick. I like this piece a lot for its global perspective and its ability to look inward to see what specks we are in the scheme of it all. We are all moments away from the coin flipping and we need to rip away the adornments and pare it all down to the relevant. Happiness always lies in simplicity. A very well thought out piece and a pleasure to read.
