Suffering

Suffering

A Poem by Sarah Buchanan
"

Written out of frustration with the way everything has gone. I think I wrote it before Obama.

"

Everyone is suffering,

The economy is failing,

The government is doing nothing,

The poor are suffering,

The rich do nothing.

Blind eyes engulf those who have power,

Anger fills those who have none,

A day will come when you will see,

The power that be cannot hold on,

To it’s reigning tyranny,

It’s bound to fall on top of us,

The weight will be the death of the world.

History is predicting the future again,

Why does no one see,

The story that is to be,

The one that brings all the death and suffering,

Our future is to fail,

Where many have before,

If only the blind could see.

Blind eyes engulf those who have power,

Anger fills those who have none,

A day will come when you will see,

The power that be cannot hold on,

To it’s reigning tyranny,

It’s bound to fall on top of us all,

The weight will be the death of the world.

If only

If only they might

If only it could be

If only it was possible

If only our voice could be heard

If only they could see.

Blind eyes engulf those who have power,

Anger fills those who have none,

A day will come when you will see,

The power that be cannot hold on,

To it’s reigning tyranny,

It’s bound to fall on top of us all,

The weight will be the death of the world.

You captured the feeling of the current climate wonderfully. Very astute and relevant. Hopefully your voice will inspire people to act and try and change the sad state of things. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.

I think this poem evokes what is absolutely happening in the world today. The worlds and tone are very powerful! Being a hippie of sorts myself I can really appreciate the topic of the piece. Good job.

Very poignant and relevant. I can completely relate to this poem.
The imagery was powerful, the pacing good. The idea of history being cyclical is one I ascribe to personally. I like the line: Blind eyes engulf those who have power.

Couple of typos: it's when it should be its, and did you mean power(s) that be cannot hold on?

This is great. I can feel all sorts of conflicting emotions nudging at the surface. Really beautiful poem.
