Hate

Hate

A Poem by Sarah Buchanan

Hatred lies within us all,

Religion fuels it,

Spirituality kills it.

Beliefs of others

Separate the world,

Fills our hearts,

With discontent

Fills our souls

With questions.

The hatred grows strong,

In man and woman,

It leaves us blinded

And takes away

Our own humanity.

The killing won’t stop,

Till we stop and see,

Our own insecurity,

Our own weakness,

That takes away,

Our hearts.

The hatred lies,

Within us all,

We let it grow stronger,

Day by day,

Night by night,

In dreams and nightmares,

In the world

That won’t give up,

Without a fight,

For mother earth,

Is another victim

In our hatred.
