She Sat Alone

She Sat Alone

A Poem by Julynn
"

She was forgotten and sat alone. Old and wrinkled, but a life within her held treasures she could share if someone could see.

"
She Sat Alone

They didn’t know she was beautiful.

Lines and wrinkles hid the freshness of youth.

They didn’t know she was strong.

Cane and chair became her companion.

They didn’t know she was witty and quick to laugh

Silence seemed to surround her.

They didn’t know the life she lived

The things she had done.

The things she could do.

They didn’t know she was loved.

She sat alone.

No one came.

They didn’t know.

They didn’t hear.

They didn’t see.

This one reminds me of the hospital where I worked for 12 years. I knew many elderly patients who passed their days in just this way, silent and alone, with no one knowing what they had been. But they had their stories, if anyone cared to ask. This offering captures such people extremely well.
