What If

I see you sitting over there.

Your eyes focused on me.

I pretend not to notice. 

I still remember what you said to me.

How you lied. 

At times my mind wonders "what if" 

What if you had been honest with me.

What if you said something different.

Then we wouldn't be where we are.

 

I look at you. 

My heart use to smile.

You are no longer the person I once thought you were.

I wonder what made you lie to me.

Four words changed everything.

All the plans I once made

Floated away...

I knew deep down we wouldn't work.

But I still hoped.

i like the reference to four words here, it works really well with the energy of the poem. I really hope this guy who keeps inspiring you to write this stuff feels karma come back to him soon because lieing to you wasn't nice at all. Though I am glad you are able to write such wonderful poetry as a result, Im sorry he hurt you :(

The biggest thing I thought when my ex-boyfriend broke up with me using lies was "Am I REALLY not worth the truth?!" Relationships can be so sweet and rewarding, but also so cruel.

it is a huge disappointment to make plans for someone and have them dashed by cruelty or dishonesty. i have been here many times, no longer do i create fantasies for my future without making sure they are possible.... very bitter and excellent write.
