A Warm PlaceA Story by AlainaWhen waking up isn't a chore. This is a short scene I wrote in my Fiction 1 class.
It was dark but I knew she was there, she was always there. The only bright light was the crimson flash of the clock by the bed, it was The first ray of morning light strained though the heavy curtains. I could start to make out her features. Her messy, auburn, hair covered half her face; I shifted to wipe a strand out of her eyes, letting the smell of sex escape the sheets. Images of only hours before crept back into my mind. The walls were damp, the air heavy, our bodies tangled in a sweet embrace. I hadn’t held her like that since the night I left for the summer. It was now two weeks since I had been back and our relationship was challenged on more than one occasion. I had to beg her to stay the night before last. My tears weren’t working and she fought my arms. It was never that bad. Here I am now just 48 hours later holding her while she sleeps. The walls are no longer dark and condensation from the night’s activities has left streaks on the paint. The air is still thick and the sheets stick to her flesh. I peel back the satin revealing her milky white skin. Peach fuzz covers her back and neck, I love the way they tickle my nose when I kiss her. There is movement in the room; scampering of little paws, chasing, fill my ears. I look up in time for a small furry face to come bounding from the floor. Leia runs for her life as her tormentor, Yoda, chases her around the apartment. “Guys knock it off” she sleepily moans shoving the cats back to the ground. Turning over she realizes I am awake. Her sleepy smile melts my heart. I fall in love all over again as she leaned in for a good morning kiss. “I’ve missed you,” she said. © 2008 Alaina |
