for those girls out there struggling with abusive relationships, don't let your voice disappear.

Do not try to silence me,

I will speak and I will be heard.

The secrets you don't want released

will become your darkest fears.

 

Do not try to silence me

with bribes or gifts or threats,

I will be heard across the world

dispite the beatings and the hits.

 

Bruises cover my arms and legs

still I'll continue to yell out my voice.

Lock me away, cut into me with ropes,

but still I made my choice.

 

Do not try to silence me

with promises of love.

To say it wont happen again,

and again you come home drunk.

 

I love you still and always will,

but I cant take it anymore.

Don't come to look for me

forever gone out your front door.

This gets a good grasp on the physical side of abuse, but I felt it could of used a little more of the emotional effects, too. I also feel I have to say, this doesn't just affect women, even though it is more common. Overall, a very chilling, yet somewhat hopeful, affirmitive poem.
