For a While

For a While

A Poem by Rayne Stanton
"

For my Mom

"

I see you through the glass

Don’t know how much time has past

But the mirror reflects colorless eyes

Lips that once smiled

But not for a while, not for a while

Where does the spirit go?

How can anyone know

What goes on inside your head?

Ravens once soared and sunshine shone

Little ones played with bright minds aglow

The green grass soothed away the day

And my lips once smiled

But not for a while not for a while

My son once little and bright

Brighter than the sun shone light

Has grown tall with age

I don’t see him much more

For he’s gone and now old,

and has a family of his own.

This saddens me as I watched him go

And my lips smile

No more, no more.

But I know he has a family

And I raised him right

So my lips now smile

For a while, for a while.
