Broken and Bruised

Broken and Bruised

A Poem by CD

Laughter escapes her pretty lips
She thinks she's so happy to be his
What is a promise made by this man
She ponders and stares at the ring on her hand
They've been together
But does this mean forever?

When the red dress tore
When the ribbons and bows feel to the floor
When the lights came on
When she ran out the door
When the tears fell like rain
She said never again
Will I be used
I am broken and bruised

Alone in a dark,empty room
Her heart is sealed like a tomb
With a pale face and cold hands
She grasps and reaches, trying to understand
Who she is and where she's been
What's been bruised and what's been broken

The cuts heal and scars fade with time
The blood washes away and it looks fine
From where they stand and stay
It's safe for the memories to fade away
She can almost see the blue sky
Till the sun sets suddenly and its night

Never again
Tears fell like rain
Can't find the ribbons and bows
No one seems to know
How to define together
And why there is no forever
