Quiet

Quiet

A Poem by K. N. Graf
"

How do you move on when the hallways continue to stay quiet?

"

It’s so quiet here

Now that you’re gone

Everyone can feel the pain

Of your untimely death

Your were so young when it happened

And there were so many things you haven’t seen

Like the faces of your family on graduation day

Or your date on prom night senior year

What made you do it?

What made you get in the car?

You must not have known your fate

After a night of just plain fun

And yet some people blame you

For any choices you may have made

But none of us know the truth

And maybe we never will

I’m sorry high school is over for you

No matter how tough it sometimes gets

And I’m sorry that you’ll never get to see

All eighteen candles on your birthday cake

I guess it’s safe to say that it will take time

For things to turn back to normal here

Because how do you get over losing someone

A classmate, a student, a friend

How do you try move past any feelings of regret

It doesn’t matter that we all didn’t know you

You’re still an innocent life

An innocent life who left this world

One dark and dreary night

So hopefully these quiet hallways return back

To how they were before you left

And hopefully you find peace

Wherever you are laid to rest
