Las Narith

Las Narith

A Chapter by cassandra ziemba

Lora and Nerel traveled through the woods for what felt like ages, lora stumbling behind the ever graceful elf. just like before, weeds caught her clothing and snagged her cheeks leaving long gashes slowly dripping blood, the deep snow made it all the more difficult to walk. the farther they went the more tired she got, yet they never seemed to get anywhere, everything looked the same, all white and cold. suddenly lora tripped over a log landing face first into a puddle of mud. she sat up shivering and wiped the mud from her face tiredly. nerel turned around and looked at her.

    "you ok?" he asked.

"lora glared at him. " obviously im fine. im just, you know, tired, confused, a mess, and now im sitting in a snowy mushy mud puddle without a clue of where we're going or how long it will take!" she yelled, clearly frustrated.

nerel sighed and stuck out his hand. when lora didn't take it he spoke. "there's a river near by so you can wash up. as for where we're going? we headed for las narith, to meat up with the one person i know we can trust. and it wont take long, maybe an hour or so."

Lora laughed. an hour or so? not that long? an hour felt like forever! she sighed and took his hand. "fine but will i be able to rest when we get there? and clean up better?"

"of course you can, and then paxton can explain things much better than i can." he said.

well ok then, lets go to the river so i can wash up some, then go meet this paxton guy, anyway i would hate to meet this guy looking like this. talk about a first impression." she said as nerel helped her to stand.

"i doubt he would mind, but it would help to clean up, less attention drawn to us when we enter town." he said with a slight laugh, as they left the path and headed towards the river.

as they came up on the river a few minutes later, lora gasped at the beauty. the river was frozen solid, the genital rolling water frozen in time. under the thick sheet of ice, water still flowed down the slightly inclined hill. the sun hit the ice at impossible angles, creating a rainbow of colors shimmering in the light. lora walked up to the frozen river and put her hand on the surface.

"its frozen." she said looking up at nerel, but before he could reply, her hand started to glow and the surface rippled. lora looked down at her hand with surprise. her hand stopped and underneath it, where moments ago the river was solid, the ice had melted leaving an opening in the ice where the water quietly bubbled.

"um, well then, i guess not." she said uncertainly."oddly the water is warm, well at least i can wash up now." she shrugged. She bent over the water,
