The Kidnap and the TruthA Chapter by cassandra ziembaLora an elven girl finds out the world is bigger that she thought, and shes been dragged into something much bigger than her. who can she trust, and can she save a world she didn't know existed? The snow glistened in the sunlight, blindingly bright. Small animals scurried under the brush revealing small smudges of color on the endless stretch of white. A lake was frozen in the middle of the forest, fish swimming under the thick layer of frozen water. Far off some were in a tree a bird cawed three times and then went silent. A tall man came stumbling into the clearing, a dark purple bundle held against his chest. He ran frantically toward a giant weeping willow towering over the lake. He fought against the pact snow, snapping his head toward every sound. His dark hair falling around his pale face and down his back. Long pointed ears stuck out of his hair with gold rings on the tip of his left one. His eleven features sharp even compared to the brilliant shimmering light of the frozen forest. He wore the purple robes of the queens mage, and kept tripping over the hems. No matter how many times he tripped or stumbles he never gave up, finally, robes soaked and muddy, and shivering with the cold, he made it to the tree. He collapsed in front of it holding the bundle close to his chest. He looked around once more before speaking. "Please!" He begged, holding out the bundle, part of the blanket fell back revealing the small sweet face of a baby girl. "please, shes our last hope the last user of magic in our existence! If she dies we all die! She could save us, but i need your help!" The desperation and heartbreak was clear in his voice as tears swarmed down his face. Suddenly the tree shifted and the shape of a woman appeared. She had a slender look and kind eyes but her skin looked like bark. she lifted her arms to the swaying branches and they responded, they grew towards the baby wrapping themselves around her and taking her from the mans hands. he gave a strangled cry and fell forward weeping, for he knew he would never see his daughter again. a voice seemingly coming from every direction, spoke. but even though the man knew it to be the great nymph, her mouth didn't move. "your daughter will be safe for now, I will send her the the human dimension where she will be safe until her 17th birth day, I will personally insure it. But remember it is your wish and as you said she will save us and our kind, I cant keep her from the truth forever. unfortunately i do not believe you will live to see her do so." Before he could reply, a distant blood chilling screech, like that of an owl and a giant cat mixed, cut him off. he turned around right as the hideous creatures entered the clearing, snarling and hissing. they were huge panther like creatures that were twice the size of a human, and huge black wings that towered over them creating a dark cascade around them. wherever they stepped, a sheet of pitch black colored ice covered the snow, making it solid. the elf whirled around and caught his breath, terror plain on his face. The nymph disappeared as the creatures ran at the elf. he darted away as the first one came at him, lightning aching from his fingertips. the first bolt hit the closest creature in its chest. it screeched as it it crumbled, withering in pain. the things brothers screamed in anger and charged him. the elf grabbed a dagger from his belt and threw it at the next pursuer. the dagger hit the creature between the eyes, dark thick blood dripped into the snow, the acid sizzling on contact. one after another they came at him, trying to tear at his body, but each one fell dead at the elf's feet. soon he had a pile around him of the dead creatures, but no matter how many he killed there were always more. he was starting to get tired and dint know how long he could survive. he was dead and he knew it. he was thinking about just quitting, he was going to die anyway, and if he surrendered they might spare him. as he thought this another creature charged him. he turned to stop the attack but was a little to slow. the creature managed to clip his shoulder, knocking him unbalanced. he slipped on the ice and fell, his foot twisting under him. he screamed out in pain as the creatures took the advantage and swarmed him. they tore at his body, eager to get revenge for their fallen kin. the elf screamed in agony as they slowly killed him, torturing him. suddenly a bright blinding light engulfed everything in a bath of gold and white, killing any thing dark or evil. when the light faded, all the creatures were laying on the ground burnt and dead. the clearing was still covered in the dark ice, and in some places there were dark spikes sticking up from the ground in little clumps. slowly a bright blueish white ice creeped over everything, freezing it in time. the ice covered the elf and the creatures. then it began to snow. * * * now that the elven mage is dead, it is up to the nymph to protect the girl. she ran down the streets, her blonde hair and green dress flapping in the wind, clutching the bundle to her chest. they would be safe for now, but nothing can last forever.. * * * almost 17 years latter she woke up to the small pitter patter of rain on the roof. she should have expected it, it had been sunny the past 2 weeks without a trace of rain. but it still didn't stop her from being grumpy. she hated rain. she loves sunny, pretty cloudless days.rain was just plain out glumly! she sighed heavily and looked at her night stand. 7:03 am. well there was no point going back to sleep. standing up she looked around. her bedroom was simple and spotless, light purple walls and dark purple bed set. she had a chair, with a blanket and books on it, next to a bookshelf, a walk in closet, and a big bed. other than that and a make up desk, her room was blank, no posters of her favorite bands, or hot guys, just plain walls. she walked into her closet, overflowing with her pastel landscapes, and grabbed a dark purple t-shirt, black short sleeved hoodie, and dark jeans. she sat at her desk and stared at her self. she had long black hair that fell to her waist, sharp facial features, like her jaw and eyes, and slightly pointed ears. she looked nothing like her mother, marlene, who was blonde and gorgeous with soft features, or any other person in her school. she sighed and pulled up her hair. mine as well and get breakfast before heading to the bus. even though she was going to turn 17 in a week, she still declined her mothers offer of a car for a birthday. she stood up and grabbed her bag. she quickly ran down the stairs and into the kitchen, grabbing a bagel in the process. she sat at the island and watched her mom cook eggs and sausage. "good morning lora so, you ready for school? its been 2 weeks." her mom said, turning around. the two of them had gone to see some of her moms friends up on the coast of california, the trip took two weeks of school so she was excited to see her friends. "yah, me, james, and amanda plan on going to the pizza place after school to celebrate." lora said. "ah, well i hope you have fun. just make sure your home for dinner." she smiled and sat across from lora, putting 2 eggs and some sausage on her plate. "oh i almost forgot to ask, what would you like for your birthday?" Lora sighed, she honestly didn't want anything, she just wanted to forget it, its just another day in life. but she couldn't tell her mom that. "um, i guess i could use new pastels? i kinda used up my others." "honestly, lora! how do you go through them so fast? i just bought you the last ones not that long ago! i never even see any of your art! im sure you could brighten up that room of yours with a little if you put some on your walls." lora smiled. she loved her mom, but she didn't really care much for her paintings, they were just to keep her busy. she really didn't understand why people made a big deal about art. "you know i wouldn't do that ma, i only draw them for entertainment." "i know, i just thought it was worth a try." she smiled "well you better get going or you'll miss the bus." then she winked and stood up, taking their plates with her. lora quickly stood up, grabbed her bag, and went outside onto the front porch. it was still pouring when she stepped outside, so she put on her hood and ran toward the bus stop. the bus came to a stop right as she got there. she quickly got on and went to the back were james and amanda sat. amanda was engulfed in a long exclamation on something about an elf names legolas from the lord of the rings, so she didn't notice lora when she walked up, but james did. he stood up, cutting off amanda, and gave her a huge crushing hug. "welcome back lora! thank god, we missed you." he said as he let go. once amanda figured out what was going on her face broke into a huge smile, then it was her turn to crush her. " oh my god! lora! your back! how was the trip?" lora smiled " not bad, but it was kinda boring." then she launched into a story about her trip. As the bus pulled up to the school lora let out a low groan. standing on the sidewalk outside of the bus was a tall dirty blonde haired jock in a blue letterman's jacket. his name was derek smith, the schools quarterback, and he was waiting for lora, probably expecting her to answer his question he asked her before she left for her trip. as they stepped off the bus derek walked up to them with a small grin on his face. james glared at him, but before he could do anything, amanda grabbed his arm and walked a little ways away, but to where they could still hear the conversation. "hey lora, welcome back." derek said as he walked along side her into the school. " so have you thought about my offer? trust me you wont regret it." lora smiled " yeah, actually i did think about it, but not very long, the answer was clear the moment you asked me. no. you're not worth my time and effort." suddenly derek's face became an assortment of anger as the realization of her rejection hit him. " how dare you mock me! no one says no to me! you will pay for this!" then something hit the side of her face so fast she didn't know what was happening. a blinding pain went through her face as she fell, the would blurred and spinning arounding her. a huge crowd surrounded them, trying to see what happened. amanda quickly came to loras side right before she blacked out. * * * lora woke up on a very cold bed in a very cold room. it was very bright and quiet. at first she dint know were she was until she sat up and saw a woman siting at a desk typing on a computer. mrs.black, the school nurse, she was at the school clinic. but why? she stood up and stretched. "oh good your awake." mrs.black said standing up. " someone has been waiting to see you." she walked to the door and gestured toward a person "you can come in now, shes awake." amanda stepped into the room, and when she saw lora standing, she ran to me and hugged me so tight she felt like the life was being squeezed out of her. "oh my god you're okay! i cant believe he hit you!" she said pulling back. she must have seen loras puzzled look because a second later she started to explain. " derek slapped you after you rejected him, you should have seen his face i doubt he even cares that he hit you. but after the hit you blacked out, so....." "well i'm ok now, thanks amanda. and wheres james? i thought he would have come to visit also." with this amanda frowned. "i told him he wasn't aloud to be near me so he had to visit you at a different time, but now that you're okay he doesn't have to wait." amanda shrugged " wait why can't he be near you? did he do something wrong?" lora asked " yeah, he punched derek, which started a huge fight and so they are both in the principal's office at the moment." lora laughed, she would have thought it was a good thing for james to stick up for her. he was just being a good friend. they headed to the door and waved at mrs. black who was now back at her desk. as they walked down the hall towards their 2nd period class, lora let amanda babble about the fight, but suddenly she was interrupted. a door slammed and people screamed as something came running out of the office. as it got closer lora figured out what it was, derek. he looked different, with pointed horns sticking out of his messy hair, long pointed teeth, and dark red eyes. his fingers were long and bony with razor sharp claws. he was running straight for lora with the look to kill. "ive had enough! i tried to play nice but you just had to push it didn't you! now your going to come with me whether you like it or not!" he yelled lunging at her. she yelped and jumped aside, causing him to miss.the next time he jumped at her,he was stopped suddenly by an arrow in his arm. he yelled in anger and turned toward the new danger. amanda stood a little behind him with a bow pulled tight with an arrow notched. she wore a long black dress that clung to her loosely making it easy to move in. her long dark red hair had grown to about waist length, with little braids starting at her temple and to the back of her head holding back the rest of her hair, showing off her long pointed ears. "hey derek are you confused?! the syco home is about 2 miles south!" she yelled. that distracted him long enough for lora to slip away and run. when he noticed she go away, he gave a cry of anger and stormed after her. "hey i wasnt done!" amanda yelled, releasing another arrow. it hit derek in his side, causing him to whirl around in anger, charging amanda. as the came upon her, she took out a dagger and dashed to the side. as he passed she slashed a long gash down his back, cutting through his clothes and into his skin. his dark blood dripped thickly down his jacket. amanda laughed. " wow, i thought you demons were suppose to be faster than elfs? so much for that." and with that she threw another dagger at him. derek knocked the dagger out of the air right as james came into the hall. a crowded was gathering but it was still easy to spot him. he too had grown longer ears and wore a green tunic armed with a bow and some daggers. james ran at derek, two daggers in hands, and went to stab him. derek turned around and hit james, sending him flying. " james!" amanda yelled, anger boiling inside her. "how dare you touch him, now you've passed the limit. no one messes with my friends!" but before she could do anything derek ran at the wall, running up onto the roof and fell landing behind lora. " to bad you wont have a chance to get your revenge. i'm not being paid to fight a warrior, and i'm pretty sure i would get in trouble for killing the prince, i think safield has plans for him." he grabbed loras arm, making her cry out in pain as he twisted it behind her. amanda yelled and threw her dagger. it hit derek right as he disappeared, leaving the crowd confused and scared. a dark red pool of thick acidic blood lay on the ground, eating a hole on the tile. amanda heaved an angry sigh, then she remembered james and ran over to where he lay on the ground. he was a little dazed but nothing major was wrong. a moment later they both stood in the hall gaining many weird looks, trying to figure out what to do next. "The only thing i can think of doing at the moment is to go see the nymph and find a way to get to derina." amanda said, rubbing her forehead. james noded " well then we better get going. lora won't last long, she wasn't suppose to get there for another 2 weeks." they both exited the school. lora would have to learn how to survive long enough until they can get there. © 2015 cassandra ziembaAuthor's Note
