Humpty
Dumpty sat on the wall, enjoying the wonderful day.
When along came Jack the Rabbit, looking worried all the way.
“What’s happened, Jack?” Humpty Dumpty asked, frowning down at his friend.
“Why, Humpty,” Jack said, “In the bakeries, I say, they have developed quite a
trend!”
“What do you mean?” Humpty asked. “Jack, now you’re scaring me!”
“It’s horrible, but true, if you came you would see…
"The bakers have started using eggs in their cakes!
And you should know more than anyone what happens when an egg breaks!”
And Humpty thought of all of those poor eggs that would crack
All because someone wanted a tasty snack.
And Humpty was angry! Oh how angry he was!
“Those eggs should not worry, tell them not to worry, because
I will save them tonight. Tell them not to fear
But Jack, you must promise you will tell no one here.”
And when night fell, Humpty Dumpty set off
Towards the bakery in town that belonged to Mr. McGoff.
The windows were dark, nobody was there
Except the eggs that Humpty rescued, all with great care.
When Humpty got home with the eggs all in hand
He knew he would be the hero of all the land
But he was tired and so, as he climbed into bed
And turned off the lights, “Goodnight,” was all he said.
When the sun woke him, shining into his room
He let out a yell that shook the house with a boom.
Because the eggs had all cracked after all
But not because of any great fall.
He looked around the room, and saw, much to his surprise
That his house was filled with lots and lots of new chick eyes.
