Kendall Jenner, Colin Firth, Tobey Maguire, and More Take Cannes

It’s not with great pride that I admit that I consider the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes to be one of the more magnificent places built by man. (Forget the pyramids! You can keep the Great Wall!)

The sentiment feels basic, but if you’ve been there, you can’t blame me. Nor would you blame Charles Finch, who has chosen to host his annual dinner during the Cannes Film Festival in the beachside wing of the Du Cap. For two years running, it has also doubled as a one-night-only exhibition of photographs from behind the scenes of movie sets�"the only overt reference to the mobbed red carpet a few miles away�"which in this year’s iteration included some pictures never seen before, including one of David Bowie in the makeup chair (and a bald cap).

The Friday night dinner included Money Monsterstars Dominic West, Caitriona Balfe, and Jack O’Connell, who joined Mick Jagger, Ginevra Elkann, and Jean Pigozzi, who hosted what seemed like most of the dinner guests at his annual pool party the next afternoon. Saturday night it was back to Du Cap for Vanity Fair’s Cannes celebration, the undisputed star of which was Faye Dunaway. “I took a picture with Faye Dunaway!” is a status symbol to which it seems nobody is immune.

Earlier that day, the hotel had been the site of a terrifying and distasteful publicity stunt, but by evening was back to its splendid self, its forest gardens awash in jewel-tone lights. Back in Cannes, La Croisette has seen more than its fair share of parties, with Kendall Jenner hosting a Magnum event and each of the films premiering here celebrating themselves. Not to worry: Thursday night will bring the amfAR party, which with VF serves as a kind of festive bookend for the film festival, and yet another reason to migrate back to Antibes.
