A Picture's Worth A Thousand Words

A Story by R. Godette
"

A small thing thought up by a picture of the Faking It cast that I stumbled upon

"
Her pen was between her teeth, face contorted in concentration. I felt the smile playing on my lips as I watched her. She's too cute when she's like this. Bright green eyes scanning the script in front her, not even looking up when reaching for her water on the table. Her beautiful mouth moving softly as she whispered her lines to herself and I couldn't help but think of how they feel against mine.

It's times like these where I wished Rita knew how I felt about her. Wished she could peek into my head somehow and read my thoughts because I could never say them out loud. Between not wanting to ruin our friendship and not wanting to hurt Paul, telling her anything of the sort would lead to some form of heartbreak.

What's worse is knowing she likes me, which Michael had told me she gushed to him in a drunken confession. But he didn't have to tell me because it was already felt.

Finally feeling my eyes on her, she looked up at me. Our eyes caught and she smirked. "What?"

"Nothing." I said turning my attention back to the packet spread out on the table.

"Mhm." Her tone doubtful.

I glanced back at her just in time to catch her smile melt into a focused pout. The corner of my mouth couldn't help but lift slightly; like I said she's too cute.

Carter called my name and I had to switch back into business mode, only allowed to sneak a few locked eyes with her every now and then.

As I was taking a highlighter out of my bag, George came up to me with his phone on hand. "I just posted a picture."

I smiled up at him before looking down at the phone screen. There it was. All my thoughts printed out on my face for everyone to see. I didn't know whether to be worried or relieved. Worry for the possible speculation and relief for finally having something for Rita to see without me having to say a word.
