I Had a Watch Once

I Had a Watch Once

A Poem by Wordydistance

I had a watch once,
Carved in the candle light,
By some man dead and gone,
He put his heart inside,
And if I grabbed it tightly,
I could still feel the beating,

I had a watch once,
With thirteen numbers painted on,
An hour left over,
For each twelve set to live,
Time for me and me alone,
The greatest gift,
My father ever gave,

I had a watch once,
Which couldn’t tell time,
Its battery died long ago,
And it didn’t fit my wrist,
Because it wasn’t meant for me,
But when I had it,
I never wasted time,

I had a watch once,
I threw it in a lake,
Where it sunk into the murk,
Because I’d look at it and think,
Such beautiful thoughts,
That the brightest days,
Paled in comparison.

Normally I write pretty quickly, but this one took a long time to find me. What are your thoughts? How can I make it better? I want this to be one of my champions.

Ever since I can remember I've been daydreaming. Inside these thoughts are where I tell my stories. Never speaking my thoughts out loud, this is my first attempt in writing one down. Let me know what .. more..
