What Is Poetry?

What Is Poetry?

A Poem by wordwarrior
"

Thoughts about Poetry

"

Poetry's words flow,

naked and carefree,

with birth of new suns,

chasing stars into extremes,

from passionate promise

to ache of inner storms.

Words howl and spin through the mind,

landing with fervour or vengeful self destruction,

laughing and growling,

winged flight into graceful sway

or into hell's torrid fires.

Each expression hankers acknowledgement,

grazed fingers spilling ink

into unknown bastions of tribal warriors.

Ghosts come to life,

shaping and shifting

into tomorrow's joyful resurgence.

They have escaped

and the poet caresses all those sufferings

that gave worth

to inner, hidden sanctuaries.

Hello…this made it into my top 10 favourites and there were 84 submissions. It was really a pleasure reading this and it made me a little emotional just because I feel like you really captured the essence of what poetry is, for me anyhow!
“from passionate promise
to ache of inner storms”
…loved those lines, absolutely beautiful poem!

This is a very powerful poem, word. (I've nicknamed you "word," hope that's ok.) I was impressed with the strength of your images. Poetry is a powerful tool, and depending on who is holding the pen, it can change the world for the better or the worse. Write on!

And 'word' is fine thank you!
You have done a great job, very compelling, interesting and well written.

A poem like this is a lesson, because hope lives by each of us with eyes closed believing in the goodwill of others.. and your message is very clear that poetry is for rituals, Great job.

Thank you!
These words are wonderful! I can see the mystical dance between the native poet, the wolf and the hawk playing in the flickering and light cast by a playful fire. Both forces of light and dark weaving in and out of the forest edges, the trees capturing the light and waltzing them into shadows that will spin and vanish again with each new burst of sparks.
The poet sees with the inner spirit and inner eye, they scribe the song within the sand by the foot steps ever changing beneath them. Blessed by the sweat and tears of the emotions spilling from the fireflies.

An amazing piece of ink Dear Roolander! Much enjoyed!

Oh my how much do I love this one, heaps! Sanctuary sums it all up nicely.

Each expression hankers acknowledgement,
grazed fingers spilling ink
into unknown bastions of tribal warriors.

Outstanding stanza, loved the whole thing!
